Paris Saint-Germain secured their fourth straight win in the French top-flight on Sunday as Lionel Messi delivered a hat-trick of assists to help them secure a comfortable 4-0 victory over Lille.
The Argentine superstar's first contribution came early on when he set up Kylian Mbappe for the opening goal of the game. Mbappe finished off the move with a powerful shot that beat Lille goalkeeper Mathieu Courtois low to his right.
Messi then added another assist just before half-time, this time providing the cross that allowed Angel Di Maria to score from close range.
In the second half, it was Messi who really shone, providing two more assists to help PSG extend their lead. First, he played a through ball to Thiago Silva, who finished calmly to give PSG a commanding 2-0 lead.
Then, with just under 25 minutes left to play, Messi provided the final touch to the scoring, slotting home a fine finish past Courtois after good work from Neymar and Mbappe.
With the result, PSG moved up to third place in the league table, level on points with Marseille and behind only leaders Monaco. The victory also marked a return to winning ways for PSG, who had lost three consecutive games before this one.
Overall, Messi's performance was a reminder of why he is considered one of the greatest players of all time. His creativity, skill and determination were on full display as he helped PSG secure a comfortable victory against a strong Lille side.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how PSG fare in the remaining fixtures and if they can maintain their impressive form. But for now, at least they have Messi delivering some much-needed inspiration to keep their title hopes alive.
